Wind warning issued for southern Ontario, gusts up to 90 km/h expected

A widespread wind warning is in effect for much of southern Ontario.

Environment Canada has issued warnings from Windsor in the south to Parry Sound and Muskoka in the north and all the way to Cornwall in the east.

Sustained winds between 20 and 40 km/h out of the southwest are expected throughout the morning before a cold front moves into the region. Winds will then shift out of the northwest with gusts between 25 to 50 km/h and as high as 90 km/h in some areas.

The strong wind gusts could lead to downed tree limbs and possibly power outages.

“Gusty winds can damage soft shelters, tents and awnings at outdoor events. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage,” the national weather service says.

The winds are expected to ease from west to east by Saturday evening.
