Tiger Woods Feeling ‘Stronger’ Ahead Of PGA Championship
The Northern Irishman finally got off to the flying start he’s been missing at the majors in recent years, with a spectacular round of 65 on Thursday giving him a slender advantage over a strong chasing pack.
That lead was eliminated early on Friday as Justin Thomas overcame testing conditions to post his second consecutive round of 67 and set a clubhouse target of -6.
McIlroy will try to overhaul that total over the course of his round, with the likes of Will Zalatoris, Tom Hoge, Mito Pereira, Cameron Smith and Abraham Ancer also looking to make moves later on Friday. Tiger Woods made a promising start on Thursday but tailed off badly as his iron-play wavered and the 15-time major champion is now fighting to make the cut in the same group as McIlroy and Jordan Spieth, who is hoping to improve on a round of +2 on day one.
Follow all the action live below:
Will Zalatoris! He’s left himself a six-foot putt for birdie on the 17th after a sublime second shot out of the wild rough. The American moves into the outright lead at (-9).
He’s got one hole left to navigate and hasn’t made a bogey today. Can he get into the clubhouse on double figures?

What a round from Mito Pereira! He just misses out on an eighth birdie of the day and settles for par on the ninth hole (his 18th). He’s six-under for the day and takes a share of the lead into the clubhouse at (-8).
Will Zalatoris (-8) could still birdie the last couple of holes but that won’t take away from this round by the Chilean. Superb stuff.

Nicely done from Tiger Woods who completes his birdie on the 16th to move to (+3). Jordan Spieth knocks in a six-footer for par and Rory McIlroy follows him in from four feet.
Two holes left for this grouping.

Tiger Woods is right on the line of the cut which is currently projected at (+4). He’ll feel a lot better about his chances after his second on 16. A iron from the fairway right into the green. The bounce is friendly and the ball finishes about six-feet from the hole.

Tiger and Rory enjoy a joke and a smile as they head down the 16th fairway. Woods is safely in play but McIlroy has found the sand just as he did yesterday.
Mito Pereira has put in the round of the day so far. He’s six under thru 17 with seven birdies and a bogey. He’ll have a chance on the ninth hole to pick up another shot too.

Jordan Spieth continues on his merry way with a birdie on the 15th to move to (+1).
A couple of holes back Bubba Watson (-3) drops a shot on 13 after finding getting into trouble off the tee and then finding the bunker.

There’s a tie at the top of the leaderboard. Mito Pereira birdies the seventh (his 16th) to join Will Zalatoris at eight under. They’ve both got two shots on the nearest challenger which is Justin Thomas who posted a round of 67 earlier in the day.

Will Zalatoris has the chance to extend his lead to two but sweeps his birdie chance on the 15th just to the left of the hole.
Bubba Watson moves to four-under with a birdie on 13. There are a few folks making hay this afternoon.

Tyrell’s on the charge! Four birdies in a row on the back nine for him puts him alongside Rory McIlroy at (-4).

Brilliant stuff from Tiger Woods to roll a 10-footer in on the 14th to save par and stay on the right side of the cut line. Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth both tap in for pars of their own. Another hole safely navigated.
